The Professional Football Federation 2008 Champions

As one season ends and another begins, it is so easy to forget the past and all the hard work that went into those seasons.  This page will remind everyone of the great season our current League Champion had and the players that made the biggest impact on that Championship Team.  Ladies and Gentlemen, I introduce to you....The 2008 and current P.F.F. League Champion....

Great Plains Fury

From 1-2, to League Champion.  The Great Plains Fury are the ones that perfected that feat in the 2008 season.  Owner/GM, Matt Carney, joined the League in 2004 and has been winning ever since.  This time, his second League Championship.  Matt won it all in just his second season in 2005 and now again in 2008.  He becomes just the 3rd team in the 12 year history of the League to win two.  The Fury lost 3 of their last 4 games in 2008, but snuck into the Playoffs as a Wildcard.  Then it got ugly for the rest of the League.  The Fury averaged 148.3 points a game in the post season, a League record.  Matt has led his Fury to the #1 team of all the 2003 expansion teams and is in the top 5 in many catogories League wide.  Matt is just one of 2 owners that has never missed the Playoffs.  Yes, for 5 consecutive seasons, Matt and his Fury have been fighting for Championships.  If Matt quit today, he would go down as one of the Greatest to play the game.  Only God himself knows where Matt will finish when his career is over.  I am sure the rest of the league hopes it isn't long, but Matt's love for the game, competitiveness, and his love for beating up on the rest of the League, will keep him coming back year after year after year.  The Great Plains Fury, your 2008 Professional Football Federtaion Champions.

QB- P. Rivers- SD

Rivers was the face of the team this year.  He was a leader for the team.  Rivers scored over 25 points 6 times during the regular season and over 30 points in every game in the Post Season.  Rivers was the MVP of Paramount Bowl VIII.  In that Championship game, Rivers threw for 287 yards and 4 TD's for 38.0 points. Rivers played in 14 of the 16 games that the Fury were a part of.  The only 2 games Rivers missed was his Bye Week, and week one before Rivers was aquired by the Fury.  Without Rivers, the Fury may not have accomplished what they did.

QB- G. Frerotte- MIN

Frerotte only played 1 game for the Fury, but it was big.  Week 9 was Rivers bye week, so Frerotte was asked to carry the load.  He did just that.  In that game, he threw for 182 yards and 3 TD's for 27.1 points.  It was big because the Fury was playing one of the League's best, Wolverines.  Fury won that game by less then 20 points and if a loss would have occured in that week 9 game, the Fury would have missed the Playoffs all together.

RB- B. Westbrook- PHI

Westbrook is one of the Fury's Franchise Players and is beloved by the Fury and all of their fans.  This year Westbrook had injury problems and only played in 8 regular season games.  That being said, Westbrook came through when he was needed.  Heading into the last week of the regular season, the Fury needed a big win to make the playoffs.  Westbrook stepped up and led his team to the promise land.  Knowing what was on the line, Westbrook ran for 110 yards, 20 recieving and 4 TD's.  The rest is History.

RB- W. McGahee- BAL

McGahee only contributed in 2 games during the season for the Fury.  In those 2 games, McGahee had 210 combined yards and 2 TD's.  Both of these games ended as wins for the Fury.  Yes, this teams Championship was built with individuals in individual games, and McGahee had his moment.

RB- P. Thomas- NO

Thomas only played in 3 games for the Fury, but all 3 were huge games.  The first was the critical win in the last game of the regular season where Thomas had 54 yards and a TD.  But his time to shine was in the Black Conference Championship game.  In that game, Wetsbrook only mustard up 6.7 points, so Thomas took up the slack racking up 146 yards and 2 TD's for 26.6 points and of course a win.  Then in the Paramount Bowl, Thomas helped again.  This time with 103 yards and a TD for 16.3 points and a Championship.

WR- V. Jackson- SD

Jackson came, saw, and the kicked butt and took names.  The Fury knew they needed a great Receiver if they wanted a chance to go deep in the post season.  With Jackson, they found it.  Jackson was consistant throughout the season and when the post season came, he went off scoring 65.6 points in 3 games.  Jackson will always remember this season as one of his best and one that ended up with him being a Champion.

WR- A. Bryant- TB

All that can be said for this guy is WOW!  After a great regular season, one that some say is the only reason the Fury made the Playoffs, Bryant decided Championship is all that he wanted.  In the first round, week 14, Bryant had the best game of his career. He caught 9 balls for 200 yards and 2 TD's for 41.0 points.  Oh, then in week 15 he had another 8 catches and 108 yards and a TD.  Then in the Paramount Bowl, he caught 6 balls for 127 yards and a TD for 71 yards.  Maybe, the true MVP of this team.

WR- B. Engram- SEA

Engram only played in 1 game for the Fury.  Week 5 were he caught 8 balls for 61 yards and 14.1 points.  The Fury won the game by just 12 points.  Again, individual players in individual games.  Little things that made the difference and won a Championship.

TE- C. Cooley- WAS

Cooley was the only player to play every single game, other then his bye week of course, the entire regular season and post season.  Cooley's biggest game came in week 5 where he caught 8 balls for 109 yards and a TD all for 24.9 points.  More jerseys were sold in the Great Plains then any other jersey in 2008.  A true constant that shares both Championships with the Fury.

TE- A. Gates- SD

If Cooley was so great, and Gates only played in one game, week 1, the entire season for the Fury, why is he here?  Well, in the first game of the season, Gates caught 4 balls for 61 yards and a TD all for 16.1 points and the first Fury win of the season.  The biggest thing for Gates was that since Fury already had Cooley on their roster, they traded him for QB- P. Rivers- SD who went on to be the MVP of Paramount Bowl VIII.  Brilliant!

K- R. Gould- CHI

Gould played in 7 regular season games and all 3 post season games for the Fury.  He was big in big games.

DF/ST- Arizona

Who would have thought that Arizona DT would play such a big part in the success of the Championship team in 2008?  Maybe the Fury did.  Scoring 21 points in week 6 and then 19 points in week 14, they did a huge part in huge games to help ensure that the Fury would get their second Championship!

Champions

Matt Carney and his Great Plains Fury will enjoy the entire year as PFF Champions.  But come September, they will have the task that all other Champions in PFF History have failed at, winning back to back Championships.  Good luck to you Fury and Great Job!
